Pedigree Research & Consultation To Support Your Breeding Program

A researcher of Arabian horse pedigrees since 1969, Karen Bragg has developed a method of pedigree presentation that enables even the newest Arabian horse owners to evaluate their horses' pedigrees at a glance. A unique color coding system presents line-breeding and out-crossing in an unmistakable and uniform way. This method offers the serious breeder a mechanism for the comparison of pedigree between horses without years of commitment to research and study. This is the only pedigree service of its kind aimed at the breeder or discerning horse owner.

Every US National and Reserve National Champion horse in all of the Open divisions, as well as all of the Top Tens in Halter, English Pleasure, Western Pleasure, Country English Pleasure, Park and Hunter Pleasure, has been analyzed and categorized into a database that is made up of literally hundreds of pedigrees. How are these horses bred? How do they relate to your horse? Knowing the past accomplishments of similar pedigrees and bloodlines can take the guesswork out of the pedigree portion of the breeder's decisions. This information is now readily available to the serious breeder.

Mare and foal in the pastureDo you know if your horse is the product of an out-cross or line breeding?

Do you know what level of achievement similarly-bred horses have had on the National level?

Or what bloodlines have a history of successfully crossing with your horse's pedigree?

Understanding the pedigree of your breeding stock and understanding which bloodlines have proven to be successful with those pedigrees can take some of the gamble and guess out of breeding Arabian horses. Horse breeding is not an exact science, and many elements contribute to the final result: conformationCurious baby, pedigree, proven performance, etc.

A study of pedigree both past and present can reveal a wealth of information about the genetic make-up of an individual horse. Many Arabian sire lines are known for specific characteristics. Do you know what these are? Every breed has its acknowledged Golden Crosses, or bloodlines that have proven to produce individuals who achieve recognition on a National level when out-crossed or line-bred. Consistent, winning crosses continue to evolve, and an astute breeder will make use of what has shown to be successful when considering pedigree in a breeding program.
